Our History

Founded in 2003 by senior bankers from leading Wall Street firms, Triangle advises and represents middle-market businesses on a confidential basis – and without conflicts of interest – to achieve optimal results for our clients.  We have a long track record of success in developing and executing mergers and acquisitions, financing transactions and rendering fairness opinions.   We are most often engaged to lead assignments for:

  • Privately held corporations
  • Private equity groups and their portfolio companies
  • Corporations doing divestitures and carve-outs

Our professionals have completed dozens of transactions across a broad range of industries.  With these experiences, there are few issues faced by our clients that we haven’t previously helped to resolve.  Also, cross-industry experience enables us to develop creative, outside-the-box thinking, ideas and approaches for all of our clients.   Industry expertise is an important distinguishing aspect of our firm.  A large proportion of our past transactions fall into key industry sectors listed below.  Within these sectors, we utilize our contacts and relationships, industry knowledge and resources, and prior transaction experiences for the benefit of our clients. Apparel, Retail & Consumer

Triangle Capital has a high degree of specialization in the apparel, accessories, retail and consumer industries.  These businesses are unique in a number of ways.  Often, these companies are highly dependent on a small group of individuals for their success.  Unlike many other businesses with more predictable performance, the merchandising skill of a management team has a critical effect on each period’s financial outcome.  Thus, structuring transactions that maintain a company’s ability to replicate and improve its financial performance is a key component of any transaction.  Making that structure work for both buyers and sellers is a delicate balance where experience with similar transactions plays a key role.  Triangle Capital also has an exclusive relationship with the China National Textile and Apparel Council (http://english.ctei.gov.cn/) which provides Triangle Capital with proprietary introductions to senior managers and entrepreneurs in the Chinese apparel and textile industries.  As a result of our experience in merchandising industries, we have relationships with senior management in the most important companies in the apparel, accessory and retail industries.  We believe that any business which has merchandising content as part of its key skills requires a special level of understanding that only experience can bring.  These skills are transferable to any company with similar characteristics and requirements.

Internet & Digital Media

Triangle Capital professionals have extensive experience in the Internet & Digital Media sector.  We are seeing significant innovation in the sector throughout numerous verticals, including content, commerce, marketing, payments, social, local, mobile and gaming.  A confluence of drivers including rapid consumer migration and time spent online, the ubiquity of smartphones, the relative low-cost to underlying technology of digital businesses, the convergence of offline and online commerce, network effects and low customer acquisition costs, and a more friction-less shopping experience are just some of the key factors driving change.  These change agents have created incessant opportunities for entrepreneurs to develop a “better, more efficient way” within startup environments that are causing disruption to larger incumbents. Technology & Home Automation

Within Triangle Capital’s strong and growing technology practice, the firm has developed expert knowledge in the home automation and home energy efficiency segments, including the rapidly expanding ecosystem of connected devices, or Internet of Things (IoT).  We strongly believe that these industry segments are in their infancy and have significant room to grow.  We expect there will be fits and starts along the way, with consolidation and financings helping to shape the overall direction.
